  1. Hi,

I bought a Venturer portable playere with a 10.5 inch screen about 4 years ago. I haven't used it for a long time, but now I'd like to connect it to a large 22" inch monitor and use it in the bedroom at home. But can I do this? There are two sockets in the side for Audio and Video output, but they are just for jacks such as you have for headphones. My monitor has a SCART socket, and that's all. I'm not bothered about the audio, as I'd be using headphones, but I'd like to know if I can connect the player to the monitor with some kind of adaptor. And would it work, or does it have to be a TV?

    Thanks in advance.

Most portable players ship with cables to output to TV. You will likely need to contact the manufacturer for the proper cables.

Good advice from classfour, because different manufacturers use different wiring for this kind of AV jacks.

True, but the manufacturer probably only has rca composite cables. The op would then need to convert the rca composite signal into scart. This may work. Or maybe this.

No need to convert anything. The adapter RCA->SCART (RCA video to SCART composite video pin) is very common. I guess the monitor's SCART has composite video input, not only RGB inputs.

  6. Thanks for the replies, but before I invest in any cables/adaptors, I'd like to be sure that a DVD player (any kind) will actually work with a computer monitor rather than a TV.

  7. I can say yes a computer monitor will work with a dvd player. I have my 21" LCD monitor hooked up to my dvd player in my bedroom. It is connected via HDMI out to a DVI in connector. The adaptor looks like this.

I have the audio hooked up to a audio receiver.

Setting up the DVD player to use progressive output will provide a better picture. Interlaced video doesn't look good on a monitor.

You need to reseach the specs for your monitor and player. "SCART in" is usually means PAL composite but may be limited to RGB only. PAL will work if supported by the monitor. The player may or may not output RGB.
