Why does newegg use this worthless operation? The USPS would be way faster by themselves instead of using this middleman.
I ordered more memory last Wednesday and expected it to get shipped UPS like everything else I've ever ordered. If it had, I would've received it today at the latest since they're closed on weekends and it would not have been put on a truck in Phoenix till early this morning. Instead, DHL picks it up Wednesday night but does not process it till the next day where they move it to another terminal in California not far from where it was received the first time where it sets for another day. It did not get shipped out to Phoenix till 5am Friday morning so I expected to get it Saturday since it's only an eight hour drive. I was pissed when it did not arrive in my mailbox Saturday. The tracking slip said it was dropped off at Phoenix USPS at 2:44am Saturday (20 hours to drive from LA to Phoenix?) but was not accepted till 8:45am (28 hours after it left LA). I was furious when it was not in my mailbox today. If it's not there tomorrow then I will be looking for a new supplier. This is horsecrap. If I sent a letter across town today by the USPS, it would arrive tomorrow. If I sent a letter to LA, it would take a couple of days. There is absolutely no reason that it should take 7 days to receive mail from LA to Phoenix.
I get my medical supplies mailed from Florida and it takes three days to get to my house. I was getting another medication that came Fedex and it took one day for them to deliver it. It had to be shipped with ice packs in a styrofoam cooler and they were frozen solid when it arrived.

I've never had a DHL shipment from NewEgg. Maybe drop shipped from the RAM supplier? I have got packages from other suppliers that were FedExed here, then mailed to me from a local post office. No idea why that was.
The USPS can be very slow at times, especially with packages.

After I ordered the RAM, I received an e-mail from Newegg saying that it would be shipped by mail using DHL (I had never heard of that). At first I wasn't too worried since I figured it would get here faster by mail than UPS because everytime I've ordered something on Wednesday, it has always gotten here on Monday. It arrives in Phoenix late Friday but since UPS is closed on weekends so it doesn't get shipped till Monday morning. The tracking order said that DHL picked it up at newegg, processed it at one terminal and sent it to another terminal where it set for another day before being put on a truck and driven to Phoenix.
I googled Newegg and DHL and found all kinds of horror stories about how bad they are. I read stories where people ordered stuff from their own state and they sent the order to two or three different states before they sent it back to the state it was ordered from. It just makes no since to me to use a middleman when the USPS will pick it up at your business and mail it themselves. This would cut two or three days out of the process.
The only reason that I can think off that the USPS has taken so long is because they received it too late Saturday to do anything with it and didn't send it over to the local post office till today and it was too late too deliver it when the local post office received it. Had DHL not been involved in the equation then I'm sure it would've arrived at least Saturday and possibly Friday.
The package that my medical supplies come in is 6x6x12. We have a community mailbox with big package boxes so they don't have to do anything special with packages. Just put the key in our regular box. The package the memory comes in is only 4x7x1/2". From what everyone on the internet was saying, it comes in a padded envelope and not in the box at all. We'll see.
I should've just driven down to Fry's on Wednesday like I was going to but I didn't want to mix Kingston with G-Skill. They have different voltages and I was afraid that might be an issue. Too bad retailers don't sell G-Skill. Bestbuy doesn't sell anything higher than DDR2 800 in the store and the local computer builder stopped buying memory at all. Said his prices are too high for him to make any money. -
I hope NewEgg doesn't make a habit of using DHL as UPS has worked fine for me.
Usually I get it before Friday if I order it Sunday or Monday. BB is too expensive and Fry's is best when they have a sale. I avoid both unless I really need the part now.
I wouldn't mix RAM of different voltages either. And if your MB is set up for dual channel operation, two RAM brands could cause problems there. -
DHL ops in the US are winding down so I wonder if they're just being contracted for certain things. DHL is still big over in EU though. FedEx Express FTW, FedEx Ground and UPS are still OK though.

After seven days, the memory finally arrived today, along with my medical supplies which were right on time (3 days from Florida via USPS).

I've received a couple packages from newegg via DHL in the past, no problems though.
But I have always wondered why they use DHL to start the shipping process, since all what they do is take the package from newegg and drop it at a USPS location.... can't the USPS do that by themselves?. I mean, they come to my house to pick ONE package when I request it...

Fry's electronics used to use DHL to Honolulu but I had no problems with them. UPS is another story as they leave shit at your doorway and runaway.
