First, let me make clear that I understand that ripping bluray sup files into forced only SRT files is easy. That said, I'm trying to follow the same process with HD-DVD EVO files, but when I extract the Sup streams, there are no indicators of forced subtitles in the stream. The forced subs don't show up as forced in the SUP file, they aren't encoded into the video, and they aren't their own SUP stream. How do I get forced subs from an HD-DVD rip?

They may not be forced. They may have their own stream. Check out the various sub streams. One may be much smaller in size than the main ones. I'd look there first. Much of the time subs technically aren't forced subs. Forced subs would have a few foreign language subs within a much larger language stream.
That said, if they truly are forced subs Suprip is supposed to be able to extract them.Last edited by manono; 14th Mar 2010 at 02:09.

Let take Bourne Identity for example. There are several spots in the movie with him speaking german or french. The Subtitles SUPs are English SDH, French, and German. All 800+. According to Suprip, none are forced. That means the SUP files don't contain forced flags (according to SUP rip) and there are no other SUP streams other than full English SDH, French, and German. Anyone here actually ripped an HD-DVD before?

Yep, those are true forced subs. The developer, Taktaal, was supposed to be trying to get HD-DVD forced subs recognized so they could be extracted separately. Apparently he never succeeded, and he's on record as not having much interest in working with HD-DVD subs. However, you might ask him about it in the SupRip thread sticky in the Subtitles Forum over at Doom9:

At the moment I don't see that you have any choice but to OCR them and then pull out all the ones you don't want. But maybe someone else has actually worked with those subs before. -
I guess I'll just have to keep searching the internet for forced subs to download and then remux into the rips.

I'm sure that http://subscene.com/ has the subs that you need.

Funny... I was just playing with this same title and looking for the same info... I ripped the English (SDH) and the French (Forced) streams. The French had very few entries but they were in French (go figure
). For fun, I loaded the English (SDH) sup into SUPREAD and then I stuck the disc into my HD-DVD player...
Is there another stream somewhere? There appear to be force subs in the opening when they are hauling Bourne out of the water but these line don't seem to be in the English (SDH) subtitle SUP. However, some foreign language lines that should likely be force seem to be "burned" into the video stream.
Are we looking at different versions of the disc? Are all the forced subs burned in?
