Hey guys, this is a first time post so I'll make it short and sweet before everyone finds out that I have no idea what the hell I'm doing. (I'm a bit of a technology noob too)
IN A NUTSHELL: Would it be considered a bad idea to have an HDMI splitter plugged into my Xbox, with one end running to the TV and the other end plugged into a HDMI->component adapter, with the component plugs of that plugged into a component-> S-video adapter, which is then plugged into a PCI TV Tuner in my computer.
Would having splitter, after adapter, after adapter diminish the signal? Besides looking ridiculous. or would the conversion of an HD signal to an SD signal of the S-video just not work?
You think it would be a lot easier just to get a HDMI->s-video adapter but they don't exist, and thus I have to convert the signal one step at a time. I like the HDMI better than component for the TV for some reason and I don't want to spend too much money on something like the hauppage just to record my bad connection on Xbox Live, so I have to stick with my S-video TV Tuner.
I've discovered all of these adapters on eBay. I buy pretty much all of my cables on eBay, cheap and of same quality IMO as store bought cables.

Sounds like a bad idea to me. I'm not clear how that adapter would be able to change digital HDMI to analog S-video/component either. Or HD to SD. I'm not clear how that adapter would be able to change digital HDMI to analog S-video/component either. Or HD to SD.

You can use a active (Powered) HDMI splitter if you need two HDMI outputs. I doubt a passive HDMI (cable adapter) type splitter would work well or at all.

Maybe some one more familiar with a Xbox has some ideas.

 And welcome to our forums.

Yeah, it did seem a little dodgy. I have been getting a little bit desperate for ideas trying to explore all possible options on the perfect Xbox/TV/Computer setup.

It looks like my only real option is a Hauppage PVR, but AU$400 seems a bit much to spend on a video capture device, and it only uses component, not HDMI, or anything else...

Things are never just simple are they? :/

Anyway, your help is greatly appreciated =)
