Desired end result: I downloaded a short wmv movie in 3 parts. The first part plays, the other two do not. So I tried importing them into iMovie, in hopes I could view them there, or maybe combine the parts into one movie that could be viewed. But iMovie doesn't even recognize the files as importable (they're grayed out). So I tried importing another wmv movie (that I know plays), to see if it was just a problem with the files I really want; but same thing. So I figured iMovie doesn't take wmv, so wondered if there's a program for converting wmv to .mov, which surely iMovie can handle. That's how I found a recommendation for ffmpegX.
To be able to use ffmpegX, I installed the three required files, at least I trust the one named "mpeg2enc.intel" installed, as I got no error message.
Opened ffmpegX, dropped a wmv file on it and then selected .mov to convert to. Clicked "Encode." In less than a second I heard a ding, and it said it was finished. Destination was Desktop. But no file appears on my desktop, and a search on the computer shows nothing created.
Is this program supposed to work on OS 10.6? I assume it does, but what am I doing wrong? (And if you know a better way to combine the 3 parts of a wmv movie so as to get the whole movie in one file (that plays!) that would be great too.)
Many thanks.

1/ WMV support has always been very limited on Mac OS. If QuickTime Player with Flip4Mac can't play all parts, then you just lost your best bet.
2/ The decoding libraries in ffmpegX are from 2006, when they were far from complete with regard to WMV; some versions of WMV are simply not supported in this version.
3/ Check the ffmpegX Process Information log (blue "i"). If it says "Unsupported codec", then that is obvious. If it says "Codec mismatch for mapping..." then try the 'Invert mapping' checkbox in the Audio tab.

Ahh yes, the old "In less than a second I heard a ding" LOL it happens to all of us. I just posted a help file on how to include subtitles into a WMV file which will help you with your WMV issue: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/317961-How-to-add-hardcoded-subtitles-to-WMV-using-ffmpegX
So basically I would use iSquint and convert all three files to mp4 and see if you can view all three then. If you can, then you will probably want to use ffmpegX to convert all three mp4 to AVI. These steps are included in the link. Once you've done that, you can join the AVI's into one large file using ffmpegX.
The fact that the first video plays and the other 2 do not suggests to me that a one larger WMV was simply SPLIT into three parts, and the first video contains the header information to play the video whereas the subsequent two do not.
I just performed a test and split a large WMV into 8 pieces. The first piece was renamed with a WMV extension and plays, and the subsequent files do not play. Furthermore, I can convert the first file (which contains the header info) but the subsequent parts cannot be converted to mp4 using iSquint.
Unless you can figure out what split/concat program was used to split your file into three, and then rename these files with the proper program extension in order to concat them, you will be SOL I'm afraid.Last edited by Vitoarc; 12th Mar 2010 at 16:02.
