    Interesting. Definitely something to watch.

  3. Eibriel has made a workflow tutorial which will demonstrate how to track, animate and layer(in Ramen) a CGI composite here!

This is the result of the workflow tutorial:

    As he states:
    Remaining work:
    • Shadows
    • Reflections
    • Particles
    • Masking
But that I leave to you
Still no Windows release yet - the developer Esteban of Ramen says:
We are a bit stuck at the moment.
CMake is not finding the dependencies.
But we'll try again next week.

Not to get OT, but when I saw this thread I thought that it said "Ramen - a free noodle based..."

I'm looking forward to the Windows version.

  5. On the windows build the developer, Esteban, says:
My lack of experience with windows is making the process very slow. My last windows computer was a Pentium II running NT.

Anyway, to have frequent windows builds, we would need a platform maintainer.
Do you know some forum or place where we could find someone willing to do it?

  6. Maruchinu has contributed a 64 bits OSX build. It's in the project
    page, here.

For the first time, Ramen is really multiplatform.
    At least 64 bits multiplatform.

    And a new forum: http://forum.ramenfx.org/

This seems quite interesting. I don't think the flying saucer would make it across the galaxy, though. It looks a bit beat up

  8. From the Ramen blog:
    Project closed.

    Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at 01:05:25 - Posted by est (1514 views)

Some people e-mailed me asking about the status of Ramen.
I’ve been thinking about it for some days and I’ve decided to
    finally close the project.
It was a difficult decision, but my circumstances have changed
since I started the project and I don’t have the time to properly
    develop and maintain Ramen now.
I recently decided to stop working on Spain at the end of the year
and start looking for new career opportunities and more demanding projects.
I already have an unusual combination of skills being both a
professional compositor and a C++ programmer, that can be very useful,
but there are other tools I want to learn better, like Renderman,
Python or cortex and I’d like to work on small projects with them for
    a while.
I’ll keep developing Ramen if possible, for my own personal uses as I enjoy
working on it, it’s a very good learning experience and
I can reuse the code for other things.
I’m very happy with the results I’ve achieved so far.
But Ramen has failed as an open source project and we have to accept it.
I’d like to thank all the people that helped and supported the project.
    Est.
    Too bad...

  9. From Est.'s blog: http://ramencomp.blogspot.com/

    Welcome (again)

Some of you possibly remember the old Ramen compositor. It was an open source project which unfortunately wasn't very successful. The project was closed some months ago, but development went on and the compositor was rewritten. Important new features have been added and many errors have been fixed.
This is the new aspect of the application.

Some of the changes are clear from the screenshots, for example the tracker is new. I'll post about other new features later.

I'm currently working to do an alpha release next week. For now, Linux 64 bits only.
64 bits Windows later. The new releases will be closed source.

Thank you for your interest (again).

    Est.
It's for Windows and Linux 64 bit.

  10. From Est.'s blog: http://ramencomp.blogspot.com/

    Release 0.8.1

Release 0.8.1 is out, with bug fixes, fixes in the linux package and some new features.

There are 3 new nodes: GenerateX, ColorX and LayerX, that use Disney's SeExpr
to generate / color correct and composite images. DistortX will follow soon.
Also, there's a new sample folder with some examples of how to use them.

You can even replace the splash screen by your own expression. Just copy the file ui/splash.se
in the package, edit it and copy it to $HOME/ramen1.0/ui.
Check SeExpr's site for more info.

I bundled Python 2.7 in this release, but there's not much you can do with it yet.
For now it's more of an experiment to lean how to distribute python with an application.

And finally, I added a Move3D node. It's still work in progress.
It has some cool things: it's a real 3D transformation and it concatenates
with other (following) Move3D nodes in real 3d space.
On the other side, it doesn't have on screen controls yet
and it's usually difficult to see what's going on and filtering quality is not
    very high.

I plan on addressing the resampling quality issues in the next release.
