  1. Heres the scenario: I have an infrared camera that has RCA output to connect to a tv or something other device. What I need is a small portable device that I could connect the IR Camera to and in turn record the feed on device. I am fully aware of various devices and capture cards that connect to a PC or Laptop and could act as a converter/adapter, but that is not what I am wanting. My needs are specific. Does anyone have any suggestions of any such device. Please help.

  2. Archos made a few media player/records that had that ability. Some camcorders have composite inputs.

There are portable field recorders around, but the ones I have seen are expensive (US$11000 and up depending on capacity) and expect digital input via firewire, rather than analogue inputs. I suspect this removes the need for transcoding on the fly. Something along the lines of this device.

Do you happen to know which Archos model may have had that option? 'Cause so far the only recording option Ive seen with the Archos is the ability to record tv. But I think even then you have to plug it into the "docking station" which I imagine is setup at home, hooked up to you preferred service DVR.
And thank you both for taking the time out to reply, I appreciate the help.

Edit: never mind. . . JUST as I posted this, I ran across the Archos 5 which clearly states "Record from most any external analog video source such as your satellite receiver, Digital TV adapter (DVB-T), VCR or cable box." Friggin awesome device. Thnx again

Forgot about the Archos. Haven't seen one in ages.
