  1. Ok, it has been years since I have done this, actually around when Pinnacle Studio version 7 was the latest and greatest.

I have a bunch of older MiniDV video tapes from our old camcorder that I need to get transferred to DVD. The camcorder has Firewire. It is a Sony DCR-TRV17 Digital HandyCam. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate and Pro on my pc's now and was just curious as to what might be the best or easiest software to use to get these transferred off the older MiniDV tapes to my computer and burned to DVD disc?

Are there any good free software that will do this?

    Thanks!

Record with WinDV and convert to DVD with DVD Flick or AVStoDVD. All free.

The best way is to dump the MinDV from the cam to a DVD recorder. Now you have DVD ready to play, or edit as you wish.

That's not the best way for a camcorder but it's the easiest, for best quality use firewire to your PC.

  5. 1. External DVD recorder esp. one with DV input via FireWire. All done in real time, very easy and no PC needed.
    2. Windows DVD Maker - very easy, free but can be slow + only comes with Vista or 7.

I've done both and have got good results (certainly good enough for consumer camcorders).

  6. Thanks for the suggestions! I do not own a DVD Recorder, so I will have to go through my PC to accomplish this.
