    DVD Playing issues

I have been creating and editing video since late 2003. I have always used Pinnacle Studio with various upgrades to my current version, Pinnacle 12. I am on my second PC and operating system to where I now use Windows Vista and previously I used Windows XP. I have plenty have horsepower on my pc with 4 gigs of Ram and a quad core processor. I have used several different burners and I have experimented with several brands of discs since 2003. I am also on my second camera. At the time I started, the DVD player I had could only use DVD-R so the one thing I have never changed is that I have always used DVD-R. Ever since I started video editing, I have had the same problem: over time, the disc will no longer play properly in a DVD player. It does not matter which DVD player I use. I have tried them in a freind's DVD player that was brand new. When I first burn the disc, it plays fine in any DVD player but after as soon as 2 months, ever disc I have ever burned ends up with choppy play and skipping until ultimately it stops playing altogether. Ironically, the discs will often not have a problem being played in my pc. Also, if I copy the disc to a new disc, the new disc will play fine but over time, it reverts back to my same problem. I have wanted to expand my video hobby into something semi-professional with camera, lighting and software upgrades but because of this issue, I do not dare sell a product that is consistently this poor. What is the problem and what can I do to correct it?

So, would you say it is the commercial stuff in the stores that sucks? Those well known brands? Any recommendations for discs?

So maybe I meant Maxell, anyhow, Verbatum, RiData, and Taiyo Yuden seems to be the most consistant good ones.

Depends on what you consider "commercial stuff in the stores", but generally, YES!!
Brand name & manufacturer are two different things.
Companies outsource & other companies actually make the media and then they just have their "brand name" stamped on them.

    He meant "MAXELL" LOL!!

You will never go wrong buying Verbatim dvdr's.

They have them on sale pretty regularly at office max & you can get them pretty cheap most of the time at newegg & they ship super fast, i live in Michigan and i have never waited more then 2 days for mine to arrive.
But i usually pick them up at office max when they are on sale, sometimes $24.99 & sometimes $19.99 for a 100 pack spindle.
Newegg is usually around $25.99 for a 100 pack spindle.

$23.99 with Free Shipping, heck i may have to order another pack

I just check the officemax ad every sunday morning and if they have them on sale and i need some, i drive about 5 minutes and pick up a pack.

You must have posted that while i was typing

TY's you will have to mail order but Verbatim's are always a good bet if you want to pick them up locally or mail order.

It was nice back in the day, Fuji's used to have TY make their media and you could buy them pretty much anywhere, officemax, bestbuy, ect.

Too bad they stopped having TY make their media, not sure who makes Fuji disc's now.

I also read after my last posts that the sticker labels can cause problems over time. Anything on that? And if I switched to DVD+R would I see a difference?

Yes. Remove the labels and your discs may play again.
