    Hi

I know, there are hundrets of threads of this sort. I read them all, but I didn't found a solution for my prob.

    I am using VirtualDub 1.9.8 (x32) on Windows 7 (x64) with Quicktime Alternative 3.1.1 and ffdshow tryouts rev3130 (x32).
VirtualDub Plugins in this connection are the DirectShow Input Driver, MP4InputDriver and Quicktime.
ffdshow is configured in the VfW interface setup to use for H.264/AVC the libavcodec.

When I simply open a mp4 AVC file in VirtualDub, I get a blue/green/black input. No error messages, no dialoge, just a colored input/output pane and the framebar with correct length. But no picture.

When I set ffdshow to deactivate H.264/AVC, I get a "Unable to locate a video codec to decompress the video track"-error when I try to open the video with the mp4 plugin of Vdub. When I try the directshow plugin, a "File [...] does not have a video stream" error appears. With the quicktime-plugin the video gets opened, and I can edit it, but a lot of fragments are in the encoded video and in the edit view, pixel failures, ghosting and such.

That's my situation. libvacodec gives me a one-colored "input", quicktime-alternative gives me a fuzzy input.

Has anyone a idea why it doesn't work for me? What i am doing wrong?
Please help me if you want.

It's issue with MP4 Input Driver and ffdshow VfW decoding.

It's also MP4 Input Driver issue.

This plugin is unfinished and abandoned - and practically never work properly (especially with AVC video).
MP4 Input Driver need VfW codecs to decoding.
    Remove this useless plugin.

Sometimes happens with some DirectShow filters.
What you use splitter for MP4 and decoders?

When open file, select Ask for extended options after this dialog option and change video decoder mode (can save plugin config used Save to Quicktime.ini option).

If VfW compatible codecs is installed in system, default will be used. But it's very rarely useful.
Default (Auto) is used Decomp sequence mode, however it must be mistake because usually do not decode properly (often similar effects as described).

For AVC video use ICM Decomp mode and for most other video formats (such as Sorenson, Indeo or MP4V) use MoviesTask mode.

Do the H.264 files play in Windows Movie Player ? Normally, FFDshow & the Haali media splitter are enough for this to work with Virtualdub using the dshow plugin. If it's not helping, open the file with MediaInfo, put it in View/Text mode, and put the info in here.

  4. As Placio74 suggested, try the different decoder modes in the MP4 source filter. If you still can't get it to work use an AviSynth script with DirectShowSource().

Wow, It's really rare getting such capable help on forums Thanks, that's the solution. With activated H264/AVC in ffdshow and opened with the quicktime-plugin and ICM Decomp it works like charm.

I've never started the WMP, I'm afraid it's installing crap or something But H264 get's played with Media Player Classic, but as it's using some intern filters and directly ffdshow in some cases, it's surely not the same as with the WMP. I will play around a little in next time, but as long as Placio74's solutions is working, I am happy with the situation now.

Thanks you three for helping me.
