Is there adequate free disk space?

    Did you defragment the drive?

Also, I have a pretty new system, It's a Dell XPS 9000 with a 3.33ghz Intel Core i7 CPU and 12gb RAM... When I am capturing video I can do other things such as browsing the internet, right?

Not if you are dropping frames. You need to fix the problem.

I often capture CNBC to DV-AVI during the day so I can quickly review and edit out clips. Rarely do I see DV frame loss.

On my typical Core2Duo, Core2Quad machines I can capture DV and work (even encode) so long as I don't use the drive capturing the video. Even then the main thing that causes frame loss is a large file copy on that drive.

WinDV will give two indications of stress. First it will stop monitoring when at limits even though it is still capturing. Second, it reports frame loss.
