Well I will be getting my new PC on Monday. Wanted to get your opinion on the best web browser to use with W7 and what virus and security software should I put on? I use Firefox with my old stuff and was always told to use only AVG for all virus and security stuff. But have read that Firefox can slow down web surfing sometimes. Also what things(software or programs) should I uninstall if they are on there. What about Eset security software heard is was very good. I was also told to run this progam before anything.

Since most websites are moving away from IE6, Firefox 3.5.8 would probably be your best best. You can get it to look almost just like IE6 if you work at it.

    Firefox 3.6 or Google Chrome.

I am running a combination of Comodo Firewall Pro, Microsoft Essentials and MalwareBytes for protection. Had no problems to date.

New computer will run Firefox fine. I don't have issues on dual- or quad-core -- it's the single core CPU on systems with just 1GB or so of RAM that have problems with modern FF.

Win7 install goes right for IE8.

    Per Wikipedia,

IE6 was shipped just after the first XP release in 2001. It is ancient now and unsafe even though it got updates through 6.0 SV3, May 5, 2008.

    IE7 was released October 2006.

    IE8 was released March 2009.

I use IE8 and the latest Firefox. I find it useful to have both open for different purposes.

Yeah, I tend to have Chrome and FF open at the same time.
For some things, Chrome is faster (Virtuozzo CP, for example). On others, I prefer Firefox (vBulletin forum use).
Some sites require I use IE -- stupid web devs.

I stick with FF but you also said that you were always told to stick with just AVG.. Well, I was told that too and was still getting viruses and other crap and also the scans would leave some crap on my drive that I could do a search and find myself..

I now use Avast for my real-time scanner, this will stop a virus download in its tracks (I know because its done it a few times) and is very very useful. Also, I use Superantispyware for a spyware scanner and it works great, it will scan the registry and memory along with your files. Last but not least I use Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.

I only use Avast as the real-time and the others I just do a scan with every other week or so.

Recently my little brother downloaded a fake antivirus scan and it put 36 infected files on my moms computer... One scan with Malwarebytes got rid of all of them

I was confused on why Avast didn't stop the download but he say's that he thinks he may have ignored the warnings (he's young)

    K-Meleon, Opera, Seamonkey.
    IE8, only when "absolutely necessary".
    Firefox is evil.
