The warning was ominous, its predictions dire: Oceanographers issued a bulletin telling Hawaii and other Pacific islands that a killer wave was heading their way with terrifying force and that "urgent action should be taken to protect lives and property."

Scientists acknowledged they overstated the threat, but defended their actions, saying they took the proper steps and learned the lessons of the 2004 Indonesian tsunami that killed thousands of people who didn't get enough warning.
i say good for them, there's nothing like publicly proving that you know zip about the laws of physics and then standing by your retarded predictions, rather than man up and admit you don't know what the f*ck you are talking about and returning your half assed degree to what ever clown college awarded it.

i'm sure this will have no adverse effects the next time they issue a warning of a dangerous tsunami (where's the sarcasm tag when i need it?).

"may be headed" was all they needed to say. Warn, not promise.

People around here are tornado-stupid. Fear and panic over "possible funnel activity" from a radar.
I walk outside. No funnel, back to work.
I refuse to cower down and sweat, hiding in a coat closet with 15 other people over nothing.

Just warn me -- I'll keep an eye out and be prepared.

exactly, you don't sound the civilian warning sirens, declare a state of emergency, issue evacuation orders, cause massive evacuation and panic because 6700 miles away an earthquake occurred, it's flat out irresponsible.

i live in nj, we never get tornadoes here, every 10 years a half formed funnel cloud is spotted somewhere and every once in a while we see small tornado like phenomena (kind of like an eddy) that rips up small trees and someone's fence.

and yet we still get these forecasters that predict massive wind storms, powerful thunderstorms with a "great" potential for powerful tornadoes, nj and ny declare states of emergency and everyone runs to the supermarkets and cleans them out of water, batteries, matches, can goods and candles and every single time we all sit around with our thumbs up our asses waiting for a remake of "the wizard of oz".

it never happens and yet every single time it's the same shit all over again and the same damn warnings and people fall for it every single time.

they just did the same thing with this winter warning, they're like "OMG, we are going to be buried by a blizzard", run for your lives (ok, i added this last part), sure enough we got almost 2 feet of snow and you know what happened? absolutely nothing, that's what. i got up the next morning, put my pickup truck in 4 wheel drive and went about my business.

i don't know about anyone else but i'm all worn out, unless they are absolutely, 100 percent sure that we're going to get hit with something that the building i live in can't possibly survive, then don't break my balls with warnings, leave me alone.
