i record and watch Nascar Winston Cup practice, qual. and races on a vcr and i decided to move the vcd to the computer room si i can watch them on my computer. and connected the cable to the vcd and then to the tv tuner. after i connected it a few channels were a little fuzzy. one inparticular is Channel 62 - TvLand. i record several shows off this channell every day. the fuzziness is not that bad on the tv player but on a record of that channel is a liitle more fuzzy. is there any way to keep the shapness of the cable signal when it is connected directly to the computer? not a software soultuion but any ideas to do this? the cable commecting the vcr to the cable and the one going from vcr to computer is brand new. i thought about cutting and splicing the cable but dont know if that would work. any ideas?

  2. go to your local cable company and buy some better cables and splitters. signal loss is way too easy and many channels will suffer.

if it looks OK on the TV, it could be a few things. sharpness on low settings can be similar to noise reduction. brighter TV screen can drown out noise as well as the vcr amplifying the signal to the TV and/or the TV can amplify the signal itself a bit. (like at the electronics store, some cheaper tv's may have more noise though they are all connected together and on the same channel).

cheap cables (in/out of wall), bad connectors, bad splitters, too many splitters, too many tvs can degrade the signal very fast. same as too many phones and people can't hear you anymore.

well i only have 2 splitters. one is putside where the cable company split it when i got a cable modem. thet ran a new cable to the modem. the other splitter is a 4 way splitter that has all 4 slots used. on all 3 of the tvs are fine with a vcd connected and no channes are fuzzy. with the cable plugged directly into my tv tuner card no channells are fuzzy. when i connect it to vcr then to tv tuner card a few channels are fuzzy.

  4. how about when you have it connected to tv card and have the vcr off or on bypass (tv/vcr button)?

  6. Recently, Radio Shack has started selling a 1-4 Bi Directional Signal Amplifier. Item 15-1197, cost $49.95 for use with digital cable applications such as digital cable, cable modems, pay for view and also for analog signals. It will boost the signal up to 7db. I have to use because my digital cable lead is over 450 feet long from the main cable tap. Cable company said it was my problem as they don't normally have runs that long. My signal is better now and my cable modem sped has increased from 750kbs to around 975kbs. Worth looking in to.
