i am reasonably familiar with Virtualdub and I am sure I have read here that it is now possible to do this, but despite searching for 90 minutes I cannot find any reference or updated guide.

Please can someone let me know what settings to add/use to enable this. The .avi I want to edit is Xvid.

    Many thanks

Choose Video->Fast recompress and Video->Smart rendering and it should work. Be sure to choose xvid codec under Compression also.

    Thanks Baldrick.

Must go to the optician - Did not see that Smart rendering option despite looking at menus and options for a good few minutes.
