Lately I have been getting the following warning come up when ever I open a folder containing videos.

The warning never comes up when I play the videos or edit them, only when I open the folders. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

My current theory is that it may have something to do with a recent program I bought called Registry Booster. I bought the program to help speed up my computer but I think the problem with the runtime warning started occurring at the same time.

    Thoughts?

It's probably Explorer crashing while it tries to generate thumbnails for the videos. Try opening a Run box from the Start menu, and enter the following in it:

    regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll

...and press Enter to execute it. That should disable the thumbnails/previews. Then, try going to the folder, again.

If you want to undo the above, just enter the same command without the '/u' (regsvr32 shmedia.dll).

Thank you so much for that, problem solved! I don't suppose you know why that would be happening? I've never had that issue happen before.

I couldn't tell you, really. I don't think I've ever seen an explanation as to why it happens. Everything seems to be running fine, then Explorer just arbitrarily decides it doesn't like what the codecs are doing during thumbnail generation, and... crash.

shmedia.dll is a module associated with Media File Property Extractor Shell Extension

The reason behind the crash is because one or more files within the folder have some form of data corruption which triggers the crash or halts the process... even thou the file plays fine in "a media player".

Media players can work around this error
