  1. First of all, would like to state that I suck hard at video playback on Windows 7 64bits.

I have my Windows 7 just installed recently and still no video codecs installed or nothing. The one thing I am aware of is that k-lite codec pack is a bad choice so I'd like to ask what's the best way to get my ATI-based notebook fully HD-ready with GPU acceleration and everything running perfectly?

    Thanks!

PS: ohh, one more thing... since I have an ATI-based notebook (ATI HD4200 Mobility), is it true that I can get a much better image quality or GPU acceleration if I play videos on softwares like the Cyberlink PowerDVD? What are your thoughts upon this... I'd like to get the best out of my system...

Start with installing the latest ATI drivers, then try Splash Lite and FFDShow.

I have almost no external codecs installed on my PC. I use MPC HomeCinema, which has decoders already built in. My video card supports DirectX Video Acceleration (DXVA) so I get a big performance boost when playing h264 videos. Then again, I'm running XP with an Nvidia card.
