Kwag or anyone,
I know this is a brain-dead question, but it has become a real annoyance, so I thought I'd try to get an answer at the risk of seeming stupid.
With the resulting 352x480 mpg produced by Kwag's template, is there any way to get WMP to display it properly during playback? I.E, not squeezed from the sides. My DVD player seems to un-squeeze it automatically, but it would be really nice to see the correct presentation on the computer. (I really hate M$)

CyberMage, I doubt the joint-stereo is the problem for audio glitching. I tried all of the various things I could think of to get it to work on my Apex, joint-stereo, stereo, higher audio... even the standard TMPGenc template did the audio glitch when set to x480. Some players simply will not correctly play *anything* mpeg1 at x480.

I D/L A MOVIE FILE IT WAS SPLIT INTO TWO PIECES ABOUT
99 MEGS APIECE. JOINED THEM WITH V-DUB. THEN PROCEEDED TO RUN THE JOINED MOVIE THROUGH TMPEG WITH KWAGS TEMPLATE. 4 HOURS LATER ROXIO 5 DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THE FILE AS VCD COMPLIANT. I USED THE TEMPLATE IN ITS DEFAULT SETTING. IS THERE ANYONE THAT CAN GIVE ME SOME GOOD INSTRUCTIONS, I'M STILL NEW TO THIS.
UUUMMM DONUTS!

If not, use the same template, but change the output to 352x240.

Ok another notch on the encoding belt.....Just finished Moby's megamix, an 89 min bitrate intensive music video complete with multiple visualisations. This baby turned out to be 801Mb...Nero shows it as 840Mb...Audio was kept the same as the source at 192 kbps. I got it on to within a hairs breadth by enabling overburning. Never done that before........thought the plastic was gonna melt or something......This thing would only be good for cooking pizzas then
Btw - Can anyone confirm what is potentially harmful by overburning ??
Final verdict.....brilliant.... used Kwags original template cq 70 PAL settings.

hey Kwag, quick question...I wanna encode a dvd with your template and the resolution is 720x480. With the template settings at 352x480, the picture gets squished. The samples on your site are 352x480, but they aren't squished. How do you do that? Thanks again
mike
BTW, I'm using dvd2avi to frameserve into tmpeg

Hey KWAG, I have an Apex 1100W DVD player, and it plays my other Vcds, XVcds, and Svcds perfectly. However, after using your template to encode Shrek, the picture is ok but the audio skips intermittently. Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this, or does your template just not work with my DVD player?
THanks
Chris

hey kwag
for some reason tmpg doesnt like reencoding your samples at ALL.
It seems to be a problem with the audio. I tried just simply converting the audio and it does first 15 secs ok, but then screws up and TMPG freezes etc etc..
have a look yourself and see if you can reencode your video files again whilst changing the audio stream from joint stereo to stereo for me please.
if you have any success please post a sample with plain stereo for me thanks.
I would convert something myself buuut still got no DVD rom.. they dropped in price though so getting one this weekend.

I just realized something else, When i play your clips on my computer, they are squished horizontally. When i play my clips, they are squished vertically, to look like widescreen. This is probably why my dvd player wouldn't correct my clips, but I don't understand how your clips came out that way. The only setting i've messed with is the CQ! Please and thank you for all your help!

Just keep the thread alive;)
I'd have to say that I was not convinced that kwag's template would be any good. But then I thought, why not at least give it a try? So I did. Apart from the unpleasant increase in encodingtime (about 100%) I must say that I'm positively surprised by the results. And the encodingtime is actually not a huge problem either, usually I brew the VCD:s overnight and while at work. When it comes to dl'd material my [new] philosophy is that if it doesn't deserve SVCD, then I'll "kwag" it.
What would be nice to have is a guide that tries to explain CQ/size ratios on a number of 'model'-movies (fastmotion/lowmotion/animated/dvd-source/TV-rip-source etc).
Well, I'm happy...
Oh... And thanks for the templates, kwag!"The future is no longer what it used to be"

It's a great read with an excelent conclusion. ( that sounds very familiar to the template )
