I had a PC burn up a mother board or something the screen went black but still powers on. I tried new video card still no go. I bought a SSD/HDD quick adapter to hook to my IDE hard drive and try to read my info from it. I can't seam to find my Firefox bookmarks. Anyone know how to find them or where they are stored on the hard drive?
    Thanks stinkfist

On my Win7 install they are located at:

    C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*someweirdstring*.default\bookmarkbackups

If you're on XP it would be:

    C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*someweirdstring*.default\bookmarkbackups

firefox calls it a profile. google backing up firefox profile and that should point you to the data.

If you had backed them up, they would be listed in the file bookmarks-date.json or .html. the folder that normally stores them is
    duitetbm.default.

At least that where I found mine.

are you sure the issue was with overheating or a motherboad malfunction? Sometimes the power supply just gets "stuck" (I don't really know what's going on so I don't know what to call it). It causes the machine to power up and lights to come on but the computer never really boots up.

This happens after a power surge or storm usually and you have to unplug the power cord from the computer...hold the power button down for a few seconds, let go...then plug the computer back in and push the power button again.

I'm not saying it isn't any of the things you mentioned, just offering a possible solution if you aren't sure why it's doing what it is.

Once you get your bookmarks back, install the Xmarks plugin and create an account. You can then use Xmarks to keep a backup copy of your bookmarks on their servers. You can also use it to syncronise bookmarks between multiple machines, which is handy if you have a laptop and desktop, for example.

Not for sure if it was a mother board or power supply or even a hard drive issue. I tried the unpluging thing and a new video card still no go. I only paid $100 for it. It is a Dell GX270. Worked great for surfing and what I need it for. But started using it for some HD video compressing when I should of just waited till my new pc was here and it burned up from running all night I believe. Just need the bookmarks and thing off the HD. Thanks for the info guys.

Why work hard instead of smart? Get MozBackup, ver. 1.4.10. Then, anytime you have a problem, you can quickly restore your settings.

Thank you for posting that. Another useful thing I can try out

I've lost bookmarks before in the past and had to look them up on my drive so thanks again

I use an extension called febe to make a backup of all my bookmarks, usernames, passwords, extensions, themes, and more. Very useful.
