Conversion with cropping for 320x320

Friends.
My WM smartphone (Treo Pro) has a 320x320 screen. As you can imagine with 4:3 content there is significant wasted screen space and with wide-screen content it is pretty bad.

I am looking for a program that allows me maintain scale (not stretch image vertically) but allows me to easily crop 15% or so from either side of widescreen content while converting to mpg or mp4.

Advice?
