Ok everyone keeps refering to doing this method when adding subtitles to a VCD : "use the VobSub filter in Virtual Dub and frameserving to TMPGenc/CCE."
They also refer to this site.
http://www.flexion.org/video/DVDConv/DVD2AVI/index.html
One problem, it's dead right now. Can anyone help me out with how to use the above method? I don't know what some mean by "frameserving." and vobsub seems confusing to use. anyone have settings they could tell me and how to use it exactly. just saying "use vobsub filter " really doesn;t say a lot. I'd go to the flexion.org site but as i said it's down. My main goal is to add subtitles to VCDs.

I think this is what you're looking for.
http://www.doom9.org/mpg/tmpg-main.htm
I just tried it with a 3-hr foreign film and it worked great. Plus, there's a "y-offset" so your subtitles don't overlap the movie. This guide should really be on this sight somewhere. It would fit perfectly into this guide... http://www.vcdhelp.com/dvdtovcd.htm.
I also tried using DVDx w/ subtitles and TMPGenc, but DVDx seemed to be really buggy. -
Alright that's great. what they have on the site is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks a lot.
