Hello, can somebody help me how to preview my project video from the timeline to an external television. When I playback the video from the timeline, I want to see it full screen on my external TV like watching the final output, do i need to connect my PC to a VCR or DVD recorder? Can somebody help me on this? Thanks. citizen_2764@yahoo.com

First we need to know what software you are using. some software supports playback via DV connection (Vegas does this, for example), others can send the preview to a secondary monitor. Some editors don't support any option to do this as they are aimed at the home market where this type of feature is not required (or cost effective to include).

So start with the software you are using, the type of TV you want to connect to, the type of PC you have (is it a laptop of a desktop ?), and the type of graphics card you have - what outputs does it have on the back ?

Also whether you have a DV camcorder or DV transcoder (e.g. ADVC or Pyro)? You will need these to convert the IEEE-1394 DV stream to analog for the TV. Best to use an interlace CRT for this.

Hello There, I use Sony Vegas pro 8.0, my laptop is HP Pavillion dv6000, USB and firewire are the outputs of my laptop, I do have a camcoder and a ADVC (canopus). Kindly walk me through the process, I would really like to see my program output to my TV. Thanks

Basic info: Connect IEEE-1394 to ADVC (canopus) with ADVC in receive vs. send mode (big button). Connect S-Video to TV (interlace CRT preferred).

In Vegas follow instructions in "help" "monitoring the timeline". I'm not in that app now. I will be later this evening.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello, I tried the basic info edDV gave me, I still cannot see my video from the timeline on my external monitor. My ADVC110 (Canopus) settings has 6 DIP switches at the bottom, does it have something to do with it?

Dip switches should be in normal NTSC settings.
    NTSC
    7.5 IRE
    48KHz audio, etc.

Here are the Vegas instructions for monitoring the timeline via IEEE-1394.
This can also be done from Vegas Movie Studio, Premiere and Premiere Elements, Apple iMovie, etc.
