I did a quick search but no joy regarding the use of AVCHD PATCHER
How necessary is it? I don't use it and find no problems; also if you set auto burn w/imgburn is it active when processing w/BD RB?

  2. It depends on the set-top player. Makes no difference to all the Sony players I've tested. What player do you have?

Samsungs (and perhaps Panasonics) are rather finicky, if the following is anything to go by:

I should think using the strict AVCHD option in BDRB accomplishes the same object, but dunno really. If I were concerned with best compatibility, I'd use that instead.

Can't say about autoburn in BDRB, don't use that option. It probably only starts when BDRB completes the encode. A look at processes in Task Manager while BDRB is encoding would verify that.

    And welcome to the forum.

Thanks, fritzi, I'm using a Panasonic BD-605. Next time I may check the strict AVCHD box and not worry about it. The Panny seems pretty stable, after flashing the new firmware. I use DV5-R, +R with no problems. I had a Vizio player that had fits with these, so I returned it for the Panny. The autoburn feature is handy when using DV5s, the whole process with burn takes about 3 hrs 10min. (Movie only)

thanks for the welcome, should have introduced myself first.....

  4. You have a method that works, there seems no reason in particular to change. When you get a new set-top player in future, verify your discs play on it before buying if possible.

I'm curious, can your player handle full-disc backups, or just movie-only?

Also, is there anyone reading this who has a player that *requires* patching to play AVCHD? What models?

Don't know about full-movie backups; never tried that. I'll give that a shot next time.
