Sorry if this off topic but with my small town and lack of funds for our police department especially for video department they cant seem to help me here. I have a business and in the past year I have been broken into 3 times. I think I have very good video of the car but I can't get the tag to come in it is blurry from my security cam out back of the building. If anyone can help or break the video down and zoom in just anything to help get the tag number or partial number I can give it to our police to help catch these guys. I have a DVR system that records in a .DAV but I have converted that to .AVI also. If there is anyway that you think you can help me please let me know and I will get the video to you. Thank you very much for your time and help, I know that you do not need to help but if anyone possible can you will be my hero and help stop these guys. Crlakes@gmail.com or just reply to this post I think it will send me a message back.

    Thank you..
    Steve

  2. The quality and resolution are low

Converting to AVI with xvid is lossy, and will only throw away information and make your task more difficult. You should attempt this on the original video

You have some blowouts (overbright whites) right where the license plate is, it's possible that your conversion played with the levels (blowouts are never recoverable, but it's possible some information is recoverable in the original footage)

Try to convert to a better video, raw avi, or mpeg. This is best I could clear up his plate.

Thank you...I will forward this on. I have the original file *.dav uploaded to this site http://www.mediafire.com/?20dg0ijzjdy
    Maybe this would work better?

    Thanks again..

  5. In case anyone has problems with the .dav file, it's just a modified raw .h264 format

You can open it through directshow and divx h.264 decoder , for example. or make a graph in graphstudio/graphedit. FFDShow won't work in this case

You can download a player and software (which I did) (but I wouldn't bother, and use directshow instead)

It seems to play in divx player. At the beginning while the card is idle there is a view looking down at the front of the vehicle, but the words "outside back" is being displayed over it. This could be obscuring a good view. Is this all the footage that exists?

I have more video of the truck outside, the outside back is a stamp that is embedded so we know what cam that is. I can take it off but what is recorded can not be changed.

I have added more files from the back security cam, outside 2 I think gives the best chance of a tag number, the others seem to have too much glare from the tag. But if you notice anything else or have any ideas please let me know and I want to thank eveyone for your help.
