Is the capturing to hdd/transcoding/authoring etc very resource hungry, since I suspect my computer(40months old) is perhaps not coping - sound sync is out, in the final dvd product & resolution isn't good compared with the tape... Thanks

PS: should anything perhaps be disabled in msconfig?

Capturing doesn't tend to be resource heavy unless it is reliant on a resource heavy program. Converting/transcoding/authoring are a completely different issue and frequently are resource heavy. It's likely that after 40 months that your PC is bogged down with junk, About every year I start fresh and reformat my harddrive.

  3. Video capture can be very resource heavy depending on the device and software you are using. Dropped frames are usually the cause of A/V sync errors while capturing.

I have done well with less than what you have with no issues when using dazzle's DVC 150 via USB and Moviestar 5 back with 98/XP. I must ask if you have the same issues if you capture to mpg1.

I just did some research on the device and it got bad reviews. I suspect the device is not only realitively inexpensive, it's lousy to boot. There was one sugestion of capturing using virtualdub as opposed to the included software. You might give it a try, nero, or some other capture software.
