  1. I recently received files from a client.
The files have a .mov extension but i get no picture in quicktime or media player. Only VLC is able to run it.

I ran the file through GSpot and it tells me that the file has an hdv1 codec.

My goal is to import these files to premiere cs4 to edit but i can’t even play them without vlc.

Does anyone have any idea what to do?

Maybe try mpeg streamclip and reconvert to another format but if quicktime wont read it might not work that well.

Maybe with an additional decoder... Raylight Decoder or Calibrated{Q} DVCProHD Decode?

    BTW
If VLC can play this file, then usually can convert too.

  4. I think ffdshow includes a hdv1 decoder.

  6. However... HDV1 it's MPEG-2 video (720p30) in QuickTime (.mov) container.
So... I think is possible re-mux it to MPEG-TS (and maybe MPEG-PS) used FFmpeg or VLC.
