I tried to use avi2dvd to convert a mkv file to dvd format . However after it starts running a few minutes it gives an error message that the file cannot be opened . Any idea how to fix this? The file is definitely ok because I can play it . Tks

You may be able to play it, but that is no guarantee that all software can open it.

I use AVStoDVD to mkv to DVD conversions and have no issues. Otherwise you need to try to work out how AVI2DVD loads the video, then troubleshoot from there why it cannot open this one.

Where is the log file or how to trouble shoot when the error message comes out? I have tried to use this program on two separate movie clips and the error is the same. I don't have problems with other programs like FAVC.

You might drop one of those problem MKVs into MediaInfo and post a screenshot here. Blank out the title if you like. MKV is just the name of the container and that doesn't tell you much of anything about what's inside. MKV can hold quite a few different formats.

VLC player, for one, can play damaged or corrupted videos and you may not even notice.

Maybe that's the problem. I sampled the video using VLC player before I started the conversion. Let me see what media info says . TKs
