  1. I have some videos I captured from my Pentax and when I load them into Premiere CS4, I get audio and no video. So I found a tip that if I used the xvid FourCC changer tool, it would make a few changes so that I could read the video.

    OOPS!

Now the video file is intact, but nothing seems to be able to read it. In Windows explorer I can still see the length, dimensions, frame rate, etc. But it just won't play. This was supposed to alter the Codec settings.

Stupid me forgot to backup the file.

I downloaded SUPER, AVS4YOU and many other tools, but am at a loss. Even the FourCC tool says the file is not recognized. Is there anything I can do for this to get it back?

  4. fourcc changers don't alter the video, only the header (metadata)

Your video probably was damaged before you used it, I doubt there is much you can do to "fix" it

Try opening in vdub, checkmark the ask for extended options box in the open file dialog box, then checkmark rederive keyframes flags. Use direct stream copy for video & audio & resave it

If this is from a "point and shoot" type picture camera, chance are it was using mjpg for compression; if that's the case, all you needed to do was install ffdshow and enable the mjpg option in the vfw configuration and it should open in premiere pro

You can check with another clip to be sure (use mediainfo or gspot)

  5. Yeah, I knew it edited the headers, but no it worked fine in WMP and other tools, just not Premiere CS4.

  6. if you open another video from that camera that works fine in wmp , you might be able to copy the information in the header with a hex editor, and edit the damaged file to match

  7. hehehe... Four little letters.

Changed XVID to MJPG in the hex and it worked just fine!

    Thanks!
