Hi,
I own a shawshank dvd with the original english and french (from France) audio tracks. I converted my old shawshank redemption vhs with the french canadian audio stream on my hard drive. But my vhs version has a crappy video file. So, I want to use my dvd video file and add my audio stream from my vhs on my new dvd version. Naturally, I will need to edit my audio stream in order to synchronized it with my dvd version. I read and watched this tutorial (http://www.digital-digest.com/articles/Simplistic_Guide_for_Replacing_DVD_Streams_page1.html) but I couldn't find anything on syncronizing my new audio stream. Well, I need help. I would like to keep the original dvd structure but with my new audio stream synchronized correctly.
Sorry for my bad english, i'm still learning how to write correctly,
Thanks for help
Jonathan

You may well find that you have quite a few problems, simply because the VHS audio probably won't have transferred at a constant rate. This will mean cutting the audio into pieces, and stretching some or all of those pieces to different degrees in order to get things to line up. I would do something lie, this in Vegas, where I can have the video and audio side by side on the time line, and do all of the cutting and editing required in place.

I've done similar things with Avisynth:
Open the DVD audio (say the French one).
Then import the VHS audio as a second track.
Don't touch the original track, use it as a timeline and edit the VHS to match, using sound effects -- doors closing, etc -- as markers on each track.
First find markers near the beginning and end of the movie and stretch the entire track so they correspond.
Probably will then have to cut and split bits and move them slightly through the movie.
See the Audacity wiki for editing hints.
Also the video may well not be the same, some scenes might have been cut or even added.
You might also try the noise reduction effect while you're at it if necessary. -
VOB2MPEG to gret an mpg file of the video. Load this into Vegas, keeping the original audio track as a guide. Drag the new audio track onto it's own timeline. Use 's' to split the track into chunks where necessary, and time stretch (audio filter) to change the duration of chunks to get thing to align.
