    G'day.

My uncle gave me a broken Tevion TDR250HD DVD recorder for me to fix and have for myself and I intend on getting it going so it can take half of the load of videos I have to transfer to DVD. My uncle suspected the problem would be the 250GB hard drive that was in it so he took it out and whacked a spare unformatted 80GB hard drive into it as he read off the net that the recorder will autoformat it. But all he got was a half black and half white display on the TV and the LED display on the recorder kept on flashing "Hello". I bought myself a 250GB hard drive and got it unformatted and I put it in the recorder and powered it up and got the same thing, just "Hello" on the LED display and half black and half white on the TV screen. I've uploaded a video of this to YouTube to visually illustrate the fault I'm describing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1xfLPG4AZA . I would so much appreciate any technical advice on fixing this DVD recorder if it's easy and non-costly to fix.

    Cheers
    Troy

I had an RJTECH unit that had a similar issue, the cause was blow capcitors on the board. I ended up buying another on ebay and transplanted the HDD et voit-la.

Installing a new hard disc into the Tevion results in a delay during which the HD is automatically formatted. It is then ready for use. I have installed a 320GB Seagate HDD without problems. The Salora will accept a 500GB HDD.

Here is my accumulated documentation, including service manual:

I left the DVD recorder on for about 8 hours to format that hard disk and nothing, still black and white screen.
