I have teo DVD players one is a Sanyo and the other an Apex1500. A friend brought over a SVCD so we played it on The Sanyo and it also worked on the Apex. I liked the quality so I thought I might star making SVCD of some of my movies. I used Sefy's guide -Smart Ripper-DVDAVI-TMPGENC-VCD-Easy. The resulting SVCD would play in the Apex but not in the Sanyo. I checked bitrates and my friends was 2450 so I tried again and made it at 2400. No luck. I checked the folders in the SVCD and on the one that worked in both players, under the folder SVCD there were only four items: Entries svd, Info.svd, Search.dat and Track.svd. The SVD I made with VCD-Easy had 6 items in the SVCD folder: all of the above plus Lot.svd and PSd.svd.
Do you think that this is the reason mine won't play in the Sanyo? If so how can I eliminate these two extra items from VCD Easy made SVCD's.
All flaming and help will be greatly appreciated.

I guess the only solution is to buy new DVD player and give the Sanyo to my son's mother.

  3. I suggest you check the DVD Players list and see what is mentioned on the Sanyo DVD Player you have, it might just be limited to the type of media or movies it can play.

Well it definitely isn't the media because I made a direct copy of it and it played fine. I tried duplicating the bitrate and still no go. It has to be the number of files that EasyVCD puts in.

Try using non-Joliet characters in your SVCD directories and files (that means use all UPPERCASE LETTERS and 8 letters MAX for filename and 3 letters MAX for extension). In other words, maintain the DOS convention for file names. A lot of the incompatibility is probably due to the firmware on particular drives that are NON-JOLIET compatible.

You can probably set EZCD properties to default to ISO9660 naming convention (ie, all CAPs, 8.3). You can in NERO.

(By the way, convert to NERO... it is a MUCH better program.)

I don't think you can make SVCD's in EZCD. I guess I'll try Nero because any SVCD's I make with VCDEasy will only play in my apex. I guess I could move my Apex to my surround sound and save the expense of Nero.

I'll be!!! Downloaded the new VCDEasy and now my player will play SVCD's.....either there was a change that helped or maybe I had messed the settings up. I uninstalled 1.08 before I downloaded 1.09 and now I can make SVCD's that work in my Sanyo.

  8. Well, it is a known fact that Nero doesn't create fully compatible SVCD (or VCD) discs, that's why I recommand TSCV or VCDEasy, they are much more standard compliant.
