  1. I just recently purchased the Samsung pn50b860. I have some movies that are in m2ts format that I put on a usb stick drive and tried to play through the TV. Well I now know that this TV's media player does not support the m2ts format. However, I read here that it does support MKV format.

I also thought I had read that people would just switch the file extension from M2TS to MKV, and they would play no problem. However, when I tried this little experiment the file did show up, and played the video fine, but the audio was not coming through. I imagine it has to do w/ my conversion process. Just switching the file extension seemed a bit too easy.

So what would one recommend I do so that I can watch these M2TS files on my pn580b860? Thanks for all the help.

It could be because dts audio(check the audio in the m2ts,mkv with mediainfo). You can you use Popcorn MKV Audio Converter or MKV2AC3 to just convert the audio to ac3 and it should work.

Or you could use clown_bd or tonmt to convert the m2ts to a ts file with ac3 audio.

  3. Baldrick,

Thanks for the quick reply. Since I am a bit new to this I have some questions. Are you saying that switch the file extension from m2ts to mkv should work? Or are you suggesting other converters that would do the job for me like clown_bd, tonmt etc?

  4. After downloading and installing mediainfo. I checked out the file in question. It looks like the Video portion is in AVC while the Audio portion is AC3.

I am getting video w/ this file, but the audio portion is silent. Does this TV support AC3?

If you can plug a DVD player directly into it, it most likely supports AC3, that's fairly universal these days. But your AC3 may be 640kb/s second, more common with Blu-ray. But it should still support that. Check the TV manufacturer's info. It should tell you which formats the TV/player supports. Maybe your AC3 is non-standard.
