  1. All, lately I have been having quite a bit of trouble creating streamable, seekable .mp4 videos from Vegas Pro 9. It doesn't matter if I use the Main Concept or the Sony .mp4 codec, the files must fully download before they begin to play when I post them online from my own storage (I use Amazon S3). I have used a variety of different players on my Wordpress site to get this to work and none of them do.
Not only that, but once I attempt to click on the timeline to seek within the video once it is fully downloaded, it just skips right to the beginning. Can someone please, please help me with this extremely frustrating problem? Can I make this happen straight out of Vegas or is there something I need to do with the video file afterwards?
Thanks much for your help in advance.

  2. Just repackage them with yamb (mp4box)

This places the moov atom at the beginning, and video should start immediately

  3. Sadly, this did not work. I DL'd yamb and mp4box, pointed yamb to where mp4box was and than chose to "create an mp4 file with multiple audio, video, subtitle and chapters stream". I selected my Sony .mp4 file and then output it. The file plays fine but does not stream. Am I maybe doing something wrong in yamb?

  4. Do you have your server setup correctly?

    You can also try mp4faststart , but I'm 100% certain mp4box works

The "seekability" is a function of keyframes and their placement. You can only seek to keyframes , not in between. Vegas has very limited control over this and other encoding functions

I assume you are using http progressive download, not rtsp/rtmp realtime streaming or psuedostreaming ?

What player/flash front ends have you tried? If you haven't tried them, JW Media Player or Flowplayer are some options

  5. Geez, I download mp4faststart, chose the file and said OK. Instantly it said the file was processed although there was no new file in the folder. I am having major troubles here you guys.

Am I maybe having these troubles because I am running Vista 64 bit?

Fair assumption, and a bit late in the day to jsut drop that on the table. Fill in your computer specs in your profile, and then these things aren't such a mystery

  7. Ah, sorry I am a noob here and I definitely should have entered my specs. I have corrected my profile to reflect what I am running.

  9. Are you logged in as administrator and have priviledges?

Try on a friends computer, or work computer

    What kind of .mp4? h.264/aac ?

The other possibility is that you don't have your server setup correctly

I'm 100% certain both methods work for http progressive download scenarios, and this exact question has been asked , and solved in previous threads.
