  1. I have shaw HDTV cable box and I like to connect to my 1080p lcd monitor (LG w2353v).
Monitor has hdmi, dvi, and vga connection and cable box has dvi, rca, coaxial connection.
So I tried using dvi to dvi connection and I get message saying "dvi out of range".
whats the meaning of "out of range"?
Is this even possible? or have I done something wrong?
    Thank you in advance.

"shaw HDTV cable box" is a Mototola? Sci Atlanta? Other? What is the box model number?

I can't find any info that the LG w2353v accepts interlace video. Most computer monitors don't. The cable boxes usually only output 1280x720p and 1920x1080i. So I suggest you try setting the cable box to 720p first. See if that works. Then try 1080i. Try it with DVI/HDMI and/or with analog component cable.

You can do it from the front of the box. I have a similar box at home. I'll give the procedure when I get back.

On the box locate the Power, Menu and Cursor buttons.

    1. Power = Off
    2. Press Menu, press left arrow until it shows "16:9"
    3. Press down arrow once.
    4. Press left arrow until it shows "720p"
    5. Press Menu once.

Now when you turn power on it should be in 720p 16:9 output mode.

Yes if the HDMI and DVI ports can be used at the same time. On some monitors you can only connect to one at a time. Otherwise VGA could be used.
