Hello,
I am wondering if anyone has any advice on whether it is possible to purchase a DVD player from Europe and then with some kind of power adaptor, use the machine in North America to play Region 2 DVDs.

Just look for a Philips machine locally....one that is proven to be "hack-able" to Region Free and convert PAL format to NTSC format.
Oppo players also come equipped this way right out of the box.
