Now, I could be wrong here, but I was under the impression that if I got an HD PVR for my Xbox 360, I would be able to record AND play in HD. However, when I record in HD, the display that I play off of (my TV monitor) is in standard definition.

Everytime I switch the Xbox 360's output to "HDTV" instead of "TV," I can't get a picture - the screen just goes black.

My recording, however, is in HD. Any help?

I have the Xbox component cables going to the "in" slot at the back of the HD PVR, and the component cables for the HD PVR going from the "out" slot at the back of the PVR to the back of my TV screen.

  4. The signal that comes out of the HD PVR's component output should be exactly the same as the signal that comes into it. So if the Xbox 360 is putting out high def component the HD PVR should be receiving and recording high def, and the passthrough to the TV should also be high def.

I know it should be, but I'm wondering why it's not. I think my remote may be broken as well.

  6. The passthough on the HD PVR cannot change the signal from HD to SD. So if you're getting SD on the TV the HD PVR is receiving SD from the Xbox 360. You have to convince the Xbox 360 to output HD.

Anyone know why when I change the output to HD on my 360, the screen goes black and the computer doesn't detect an image?

Do I have to have it in 1080i instead of 1080p?

  8. The HD PVR can capture 720p and 1080i, not 1080p.

So having the Xbox set to 1080p would be my problem?

  10. The HD PVR would not be able to capture it. I don't know what would happen at the passthrough. From your description, I guess it doesn't pass the 1080p signal through either.
