    Hello there,
I've always had no problem playing TS files on my computer, until i installed the new K-lite codec pack yesterday. I'd installed it so that i could process H264 avi files on virtualdub. Now, when i playback TS files on Media Player Classic or VLC, i have distortions (or whatever that's called?) or lines on the image when there're big actions.

I was just wondering if it does have something to do with the new K-lite codec pack i installed, and if there're any changes to the settings i can make to make the TS playback go back to normal?

example of the playback image here -

    Thanks!

  2. Not for VLC. It doesn't rely on system installed codecs/filters

Check your graphics card settings/ drivers

Check different .ts files to see if it's only that one causing problems

i've tried different TS files, the same problem happens.
as for the graphic card, i haven't made any changes since installing the codec pack though. but i'm not entirely sure if that has always happened with VLC, because i don't think i've ever used VLC to playback TS before, i've always used MPC for TS files. sorry, should have made that clear before.

    thanks!

  4. It looks sort of like resized interlaced material

What is the source of the .ts (where did you get them) ?

i got them from a jpop site.
i've never had problems playing these files though. i tried with files i've played perfectly okay in the past, and they still give me this result now.

  6. I doubt that both MPC and VLC would encounter the same issues (since they use different systems), I suspect the files are like that , or it's a systemwide issue like graphics card.

If you want , upload a small sample (you can cut it with tsmuxer) , and I'll check to see if playback is like that for me. Or you can check at a friends house to see if the files play like that on another computer

  8. You can upload directly here if <30MB

Or use a 3rd party site like mediafire.com

  11. It's not the best quality, but try changing the deinterlacing mode in VLC (e.g change it to "bob") . But I'm not getting the thick wavy lines in your original screenshots which look like resized interlaced material

Commercials often have different patterns and sources than the actual program portion

i'm not so familiar with VLC, where do i go to change the deinterlacing mode?
    thanks~

  13. video=>deinterlace=>bob

you could try kmplayer, i think it deinterlaces automatically if it detects interlaced material

seems to be working fine on VLC now, thanks!
i'm more used to using MPC for TS files though, is there also a similar function on MPC that i can apply?

  15. not through mpc directly, but through what ever decoder you are using

e.g. if you have ffdshow set to decode MPEG2 , you can turn on the deinterlacer in the options

do i go to the ffdshow video configuration?

this is the current configuration i have now (by default from the install). how do i have to change it?

  17. You need the directshow configuration (red icon, not yellow icon like you have in the screenshot) , then checkmark the box on the left hand side that says deinterlacing to enable it. You can fiddle with the different settings, yadif does a decent job. MPEG2 has do be enabled in the decoder configuration as well (under the "codecs" heading in the left hand side)

now the playback works fine with the deinterlacing and MPEG2 enabled, but i'm experiencing laggish playback with the MPEG2 enabled. is there anything else i have to change?

  19. what do you mean lagish?

    was it smooth with vlc?

in the deinterlacing options, checkmark "double framerate" , that is the equivalent to "bob" for vlc

yes, it plays perfectly fine on VLC with deinterlace bob enabled.
on MPC, it plays fine (no more lines) but the video is laggish, much slower than the audio. doesn't happen when i disable MPEG2 in codecs though.
