I'm trying to remux a 4 GB avi file but the resulting file has a "preload = 192," according to GSPOT. My divx player does not like this preload setting for some reason and avi files with preload=512 has no issues with my divx player.

What settings in AVI-MUX do I need to change to make it preload=512?

  2. VirtualDub: File -> Open Video File, Video -> Direct Stream Copy, Audio -> Interleaving... preload=500, File -> Save as AVI

    Thank you Jagabo.

I did this exactly as you prescribed, actually with VirtualdubMod, and according to GSpot, the resulting file is show below.

    Container:
Note: 672 bytes unneeded bytes at end of file
    Multipart OpenDML AVI (3 parts)
(66987 frames in first part, 86349 frames follow)
    Interleave: 1 vid frame (42 ms), preload=512
    Audio frames: Split across interleaves

    User Data / Metadata:
    [ISFT] VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 (build 2542/release)
    [JUNK] VirtualDubMod build 2542/release
    [USER] XviD0050
Therefore, my initial problem is solved but the solution presented another possible concern of which I am not sure if I should be worried (should I?) so I have bolded what could be a problem for standalone playback issue.

If this is problematic, what could I do to fix this?

  4. I haven't seen VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod do that before but if the junk at the end of the video isn't causing problems I wouldn't worry about it.
