  1. I seem to have installed ffmpegX even though I was unable to download the first red install item.

However I get the following message when trying to convert non-encrypted video from a dvd:

    "dvd device input not available
To comply with copyright laws, DVD device input is not allowed. Please select a file or a non-encrypted VIDEO_TS folder from your hard disk."

    Thanks for your help

Can you copy the content from the dvd to your hdd without problem?
Is it a standard dvd with a VIDEO_TS folder on it?

  3. I can copy it to the hard drive with no problem. I am using a dvd-r disk

  4. Yes, it has a video_TS folder

ffmpegX won't encode with a DVD disc as input (source). This restriction does not apply if the input file or folder is on your harddisk. So use the copied VIDEO_TS folder.

  6. Thank you, it worked

I saved the file to desktop, but it does not show up and the preview does not work
As I noted earlier, I was unable to download the first red installer item.

You may download mpeg2enc by holding down the Option (alt) key while clicking the link. This is a browser trick to immediately download as a file whatever the link is pointing to, without the browser trying to interpret it first.
Alternatively, you could hold down the Ctrl key while clicking the link (or right-click if your mouse is configured that way), to get a contextual menu, which includes a download option.

If Safari renames the file by appending '.txt' to the filename, then that doesn't really matter. The installer will accept it, regardless of the name.

  8. I can't make this work. The link is not active so I copy and paste it into the browser and hit return.
I only get an error description instead of the long page of code

When all else fails, you could download this zipped copy. Unzip before pointing the installer to it (if your browser doesn't unzip automatically).

  10. Thanks for the file I get the following message when trying to open.

"Safari can’t open the file “mpeg2enc-5.intel” because no available application can open it."

You're not supposed to open the file; just leave it where it is. Then use the Locate button in the installer window to tell where the file is, then finish the installation.

  12. Sorry, it did not appear to unzip and I clicked on the download.
    Per your last instruction I tried to use "Locate" and get following message;

"You must locate mencoder file in your disk by clicking on Locate... in order to install it."

    Thanks for your patience

  13. the 3 red install items are all installed. I was apparantly getting some false messages

    Thanks again
