    Hey,

    Noob problem I'm guessing.
I want to author a DVD with some .mkv files using Adobe Encore.
However, that program obviously doesn't support the .mkv container format.
So, seeing as frameserving has been a pain, I'm looking to convert the .mkvs

How should I best go about this so as not to waste video quality?
To clarify, which format would I be best to convert them to so Encore
doesn't have to reconvert them, once they have been imported, to author the DVD.
I assume multiple conversions to the wrong formats (lossy ones) will effect the quality?
And what program should I make these conversions with (free is preferable)

I apologise for any technical mistakes I made, and my lack of understanding.
    Thanks.

AVStoDVD. You can choose to output elementary audio and video streams instead of an authored DVD. These can be brought into Encore (or any other authoring tool) to add menus etc. This is far preferable to pointless conversions to AVI, then to DVD. If Encore does try to reconvert output from AVStoDVD, ditch it and get something that is DVD compliant.

AVStoDVD is free, reasonably configurable, uses the high quality HCEnc encoder, and is well supported here by it's author.

MVK > DVD via ConvertXToDVD ... I wouldn't mess around with Encore. It's not the right tool here.

If you must, you can extract the MPEG from ConvertX, then use those to re-author in Encore.
But good luck with that. Encore is overly anal on input.
