If you're converting divx to VCD MPEG, you need to have the divx codec installed. It allows TMPGENC and others to read the divx encoded file. You seem to have all the software you need for making VCDs.

The problem is, you may not be able to encode anything in TMPGEnc without having divx codecs installed first, as TMPGEnc uses the codec to decode the AVI (codec means COde/DECode). Think of a codec as a driver that lets the system understand how to view the file.

If you've encoded to VCD (MPEG1) then Windows Media Player should be able to handle it just fine.

If you've encoded to SVCD (MPEG2), you may need to install some DVD playback software to get Windows Media Player to read MPEG2 files (sometimes these files have an extension of .m2v), or download an MPEG2 codec that will make MPEG2's recognisable on your system.

Even if you have divx installed, you might have problems with TMPGEnc and VFAPI. Do a search on TMPGENC and VFAPI, look for articles that discuss "priority" of codecs. I had that problem where I could view divx in Media Player, but TMPGENC wouldn't read it.

No problem, we all have to start at the beginning. But I do suggest that you learn to search the Forum for past articles on the topic. This question gets asked probably once a week at least.
