  1. I have a damaged AVI file, I tried to fix it using several repair programs including VirtualDub but with no luck.
I opened the file with Hex editor, it is full of data, is there a way that I can extract AVI frames as images from this damaged file. I know the frams size, Thanks

Try Avidemux. If it can open it, save to a new file with "copy" for video and audio.

  3. Thanks for your advise, I just tried Avidemux , unfortunately it couldn't open it, any other suggestions please, I don't need to repair the video, maybe that is hard, I wish I can extract some frames as images.

This might be worth a try, otherwise see if VLC can open it.

  6. VirtualDub's hex editor has a RIFF chunk tree view.

But this is a very far cry from being able to extract frames as images. Most frames in high compression codecs like Divx and Xvid do not stand alone. They only encode changes from frames before or after. Lower compression codecs like DV and HuffYUV encode each frame as a complete entity.
