  1. I have a Pinnacle TV card with coaxial in to record SD video signals either from a VCR or cable. I used it on my PC but I'm using a MacPro. They have PCi expansion slots but is there a driver to capture this video with Final Cut Pro? I suppose I could use uncontrollable device setting for capturing but but I think I'd need some kind of driver to get the hardware recognized? There are those advanced I/O boxes for capturing but $1,000+ is a little too high for me. I just want to presreve old home movies on VHS and color correct in FCP etc.

    My current system is capturing those to MiniDV then capturing the MiniDV but I'd rather remove the middle man. Any cheap breakout boxes or could my card work?

    First Question: The Pinnacle TV Card would need it's firmware flashed for
    the Mac to recognize it. Not an easy thing to do yourself, and it's
    why capture cards on both systems differ in price, because
    you are paying for the firmware flashing of the card.

    second question: Yes, the Canopus ADVC line of video digitizers
    are well used and recommended around here ( and not just by me
    )
    STF and you will find tons of posts related to using a Canopus
    device to capture TV, VHS tapes, etc.

    I've given you a head start with the link provided....
