  1. I have been trying to convert DivX files (lord of the rings) with TMPGEnc. Every time I do this my computer crashes after converting some of the file, though never in the same place twice. The partial files I have gotten look beautiful on VCD, but I can't get the whole thing done! I did rip the audio track and convert it to a wav before attempting to convert the whole file. I am running Windows XP Pro on an Athlon 1.3 gig and I have 512Meg of memory. Help!

    Thanks,

  2. get rid of XP.
well if u dont want to fine, i just highly recommend it, i think its a shitty OS. but i doubt its RAM, it could be low on resources, are you multitasking? that could be the problem, while encoding a movie i never touch the computer (which is why i have 2) so that i get a great encode without flaws (once in a while something goes wrong, but i have yet to have a problem). other than that i have no idea, could just be software incompatibility, its been known to happen in XP.

  3. My solution, for anyone who cares. Since I couldn't get TMPG to convert 1.5 hours of material without crashing, I decided to try converting the DivX in 30 minute blocks. I then joined two resulting mpegs for a one hours vcd. The movie looks great.

    I'm happy for ya

I was going to suggest you try and frameserve it from virtual dub into
    tmpg. Maybe another time.
