    Hi,
I downloaded an .avi. I tried to use adobe premier to convert but no audio came out. I tried the same with cheetah DVD burner. Great picture quality but no sound. What the heck is going on,.
    Thanks.

BTW - I also have DVDit pro. Shouldn't an avi file go in it (or just mpeg-2 files). It seems to recognize it as a pal file but it isn't (I think.)

What is the audio codec in the avi? POST the details from avi! Use mediainfo, open avi and view->text and copy and paste here.

Or try use a FREE good all-in-one dvd converter that supports most formats like DVD Flick or AVStoDVD.

its an mpeg layer-3. I know I have that codec because it plays fine on my computer.

You don't say what you are trying to convert to. DVD, I assume? If you want it to play on a stand-alone DVD player (not computer), the audio stream should either be ac3 or wav. And it would have to be in a DVD-compliant file structure.

Did you try any of the converters recommended by Baldrick?

Downloaded avi files are likely far from any sort that can be processed very well by DVDIt Pro. The .avi container is widely used for a number of different video formats.

AVStoDVD does not leave watermarks, so I suspect you have downloaded something else.

How were the avi files encoded ?
    What video codec ?
    What audio codec ?
Does the audio play on the premiere timeline ?
What compression did you use when you output the files ?

sorry... i was away. the video is divx the audio is mpeg layer 3. the audio doesn't play on the timeline and i can't even render the audio because (i guess) all .avi are blank. i don't look at compression (not sure about all that.) Like I said, I just try to fool around but sometimes it gets frustrating.
    thanks
