I've been using Mediacoder since v. 6.x.x , but I keep having the same problem when trying to produce a DVD-compliant MPG2.
I keep using Mencoder wih two-pass, because I keep getting the best conversion at lower bitrate compared to other converters. The only problem is the MPG result always has the same 2 anomaly :
    - GOP is too long
    - Video bitrate is too large xxx kbps. The max video bitrate is 9800 kbps......something like that.

I know "GOP is too long" may not present a problem with DVD player, but I really want to create a fully-compliant DVD MPG file.

Can someone help me how I can overcome this problem ?
    Thanks.

Yep, switch to the best free mpeg2 encoder. HCENc! or a gui for it like AVStoDVD.

But I guess you are setting the bitrate to max 9800 and correct gop length(15 for pal and 18 for ntsc I think)? If so you can usually just ignore the errors.

Actually I only use 1200-1500 bitrate for video and usually 160 kbps MP2 because the source is very low quality anyway, but TMPgenc DVD Author keeps complaining that the video bitrate is too high. Very strange. Trying with other Mencoder-based encoders, the MPG is fine and DVD Author has no complaint. I think it is a problem with Mediacoder.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will have a look at HCEnc tonight.
I have given up hope with mediacoder anyway. Too many problems.
