I have received a DV file wrapped in a .mov container format. I need to get in an .avi container format. Of course I don't want to do any re-encoding...just change the container format.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    Enosoft DV processor (free)

    Quicktime Pro for windows $29

But DV from a Mac usually has a *.dv extension. Check the file with Mediainfo to make sure it is DV format and PCM audio.

    Have you tried AVI Demux?

I agree with edDV that you should check the file out with Mediainfo, but if you still want to go through with the conversion, AVI Demux lets you pass thru the Video and Audio tracks to a new container, or you can choose to convert either of those tracks independently.

Why do want to go to AVI... to get it to play on a device (e.g. TV or game console)?

My video editing system has a Matrox realtime card in it that will only read a DV file with an avi extension. Frequently, I will get a DV file wrapped with a mov extension making me have to render things on the timeline. AVI Demux is the ticket? I actually do have Quicktime Pro but for some reason is was erroring out when I tried to adjust the audio settings. I assume within Quicktime Pro I would use the Export command?

When installing AVI Demux which component do I need?
