Lately there have been a lot of people leaving bad reviews for different tools here, because their A/V software flagged a false positive. Now I appreciate that most of them are at least trying to warn others of what they think is malware. However it wouldn't take much for them to investigate further. If your a/v flags something then just upload that suspicious file to www.virustotal.com and they will scan it with like 40 different a/v programs.

Here is the thing people. A good majority of the programs listed here at videohelp are free programs that are released by either individuals or small groups. Most operate via donations. Some offer "pro" versions of their software that offer more functions for a small fee. These people aren't "out to get you".

I'm not saying don't be cautious when installing new software. I'm just saying don't rely blindly on the results of one a/v software. Test your files with multiple a/v software before posting a negative about someones hard work.

    ...sorry for the rant

I would agree. Where I have seen the most problems is where people DL the software from questionable sites instead of the author's suggested sites. There are a lot of 'fake' sites out there offering all sorts of programs that they have no idea where the software came from, including some copyrighted programs that may more likely be infected.

Before posting about suspected malware in the 'Tools' section, check with the author of the program or their site and see if they are already aware of a 'false positive'. And use decent antimalware programs that have a better record of not 'jumping to conclusions'. You can also do a internet search for a program that is flagged and see if a false positive is a common problem. Some software writers may be using a few 'tricks' to make their software work properly and if the software wants to access something in the PC that also is common to malware attacks, it can be flagged. But it may also be innocent.

And if you are the only one that has a malware flag with a particular piece of software, then maybe your system is the problem, not the software.

    JMO,

EDIT: And since this thread is mostly concerning our site, better in the Feedback Forum. Moving.

Yep, lots of those lately. I blame the antivirus programs...

And please click on the "Report this comment" if it's a crap review and I will delete it.

    Will do Baldrick

And sorry for the rant. I know that the people that leave comments like that probably wont even see this thread anyway.

  5. You're too right.

There's another type of review that annoys me. The one in which it's obvious they couldn't get the program to work because they're incompetent. Doesn't stop them from writing a nasty review.
    Pull! Bang! Darn!
