I am new to this stuff and trying to convert a DVD (I own it and it is not encrypted) to run on my ipod. I use Dazzle to do a streaming capture to an AVI file and then convert that to an MP4 file using SUPER. The thought occurred to me that perhaps SUPER would directly convert an unencrypted DVD file to an MP4 (the documentation seems to imply it will). Does anyone know how to do that? If not, any suggestions on free (best) to cheap (ok) software that will do the conversion for me.

    Thanks, MVW

You can just try open the main vob file from the video_ts folder on the dvd in Super.

Or use Handbrake, choose open dvd, select the ipod profile, convert.

Many people have made assumptions about unencrypted DVDs that have ended up being false. Just FYI. I have no idea if what you propose will work or not, but your workflow seems awkward to me. You are playing your DVDs and capturing them in real time? Ay yi yi! Dude, you really need to learn about ripping. Much much quicker and easier than real time capturing.

Super exists to fill a need for people who need an easy to use tool. Handbrake should give better results. My co-workers, who are hardly video geniuses, can figure out how to use it so it's probably not too difficult. I never use it, but I'm sure you can figure out how to do so and I think you'd be pleased with the results.

jman98 - you are certainly correct! I knew there was a better way. Handbrake looks like the tool I need. MVW
