After bringing the videos to pc, I want't to transfer them to an extern harddrive, but what format should I store it in, to be capable to watch it at the most common televisions(pal)?

The format is DV, in an AVI container. The encoding is done on the fly by the AVDC100 unit. It will require 13GB/hour of footage.

Most televisions don't play material from a HDD, and those that do play different formats. The most common format would be to encode to DVD and burn them to DVD discs, use the HDD simply to archive the source files. The next most common is probably Xvd/Divx, however the quality will be much harder to maintain.

Your analog Hi8 tapes will capture to 720x576i DV format for video and uncompressed stereo PCM for audio.

DVD uses identical 720x576 resolution but encoding must be MPeg2. Best quality is achieved with interlace encoding (lower field first) and bit rates above 8000Kbps. PCM stereo audio can be recorded to DVD directly but most people will compress it to 224Kbps MP2 or AC-3.

576i DVD video will upscale nicely to 720p or 1080i on 50Hz or 100Hz HDTV sets. Some current HDTV sets play DVD compliant MPeg2 files directly off a flash drive. In the future, most HDTV sets will play these files off hard drives or wired/wireless network servers.

I'd avoid deinterlace for Hi8 files. Interlace will do better for TV display.
